The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe, with Shreyas Iyer appointed captain of the side. The series will be played in Harare on July 23, 25 and 26.
One of the biggest talking points from the squad announcement is the omission of wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson, while Punjab Kings opener Prabhsimran Singh has earned his maiden call-up to the Indian team. Ishan Kishan has been named the primary wicketkeeper, with Prabhsimran expected to serve as the backup behind the stumps.
Teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has retained his place after making an impressive international debut against England. The 15-year-old, who replaced Samson at the top of the order during the second T20I, is likely to open the innings alongside Abhishek Sharma in Zimbabwe.
The selectors have also rewarded Ashok Sharma and Yash Thakur with their first India call-ups following strong domestic performances. Meanwhile, Rinku Singh returns to the national setup after missing out on recent assignments.
Tilak Varma has been named vice-captain, while the squad also includes Shivam Dube, Suryansh Shedge, Harsh Dubey, Varun Chakaravarthy, Prince Yadav and pace sensation Mayank Yadav.
