Tensions between the United States and Iran have escalated sharply after US President Donald Trump declared that the ceasefire understanding with Tehran is “over.” Speaking on the sidelines of the NATO Summit in Ankara, Trump said he no longer wanted to negotiate with Iran, accusing the country of dishonesty and warning that it did not deserve further diplomatic engagement.
Trump also signalled that military action could intensify, saying the United States was likely to launch fresh strikes after overnight operations. He warned that Iran’s power plants could become future targets if hostilities continue, while accusing Tehran of attacking commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz with drones and missiles.

Iran responded by condemning the latest US strikes and warning of a “crushing” retaliation. Reports also claimed that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) had shot down a US MQ-9 drone in southern Iran, further raising fears of a broader conflict.
