Tensions between the United States and Iran have intensified after two US soldiers were killed and four others injured in an attack in Jordan. In response, the US launched fresh airstrikes targeting Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, saying the operation aimed to weaken Iran’s ability to threaten shipping through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
The Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global energy supplies, has become a key flashpoint in the escalating conflict. US Central Command said the strikes were intended to safeguard maritime traffic and reduce Iran’s military capabilities in the region.

Meanwhile, Iran announced it was suspending its commitments under an interim agreement with the United States, dealing another blow to hopes of easing tensions. Fresh strikes were also reported near Sirik, Hajiabad, Bandar Abbas, and Qeshm Island in southern Iran.
In neighbouring Iraq, a drone strike wounded members of an Iranian Kurdish dissident group near Irbil, where residents also reported hearing air defence explosions.
