PANJIM: With the 2026 edition of the FIFA World Cup reaching its climax, the campus of Don Bosco High School, Panjim, seemed gripped in soccer fever on Saturday as students donned the jerseys of the two finalists Argentina and Spain to observe Sports Jersey Day, which encourages students to ditch their uniforms and proudly wear the colours of their fa-vourite teams and sportspersons to school, though only for one day.
Carmen, the class teacher of Class IV A and Primary Coordinator shared that the primary section brought a lot of creative energy to the cel-ebration, with each class curating different activities.
“We celebrated jersey Day here at Don Bosco, and the students are all dressed up in colourful jerseys supporting their favourite teams. We are actively encouraging the spirit of the FIFA World Cup, as we always believe in pushing our students to participate more in sports. Activities like these encourage teamwork, discipline, and perseverance. The boys of the Class IV even designed their own jerseys and proudly displayed sketches of their unique creations,” she said.

Adding to the excitement, teacher Wellon, the supervisor at Don Bosco High School, said, “We are all set to welcome the final of the FIFA World Cup. We are completely gripped. by World Cup fever. In our school, we constantly promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect these are the core values we live by here.”
Leroy, the school’s PE teacher, wore his allegiance on his sleeve, declaring his staunch support for Argentina. “Last time too, I supported the team and they won. I support Messi, but truly, I support all the players, and I really want them to win this time around,” he smiled.
The students themselves were absolutely gung-ho about their chosen favourites, turning the schoolyard into a passionate debate ground. Young Tyson Sharma was incredibly optimistic that. Argentina would lift the coveted trophy. “Their defence is absolutely great. Defeating Spain will be a piece of cake for them. Looking at their overall performance, they play with great passing, great coordination, and brilliant chemistry. They will defeat Spain 3-2, for sure,” he declared confidently.
On the other side of the classroom divide stood Shashwant Katre, a passionate Spain supporter. “For the World Cup final, I am supporting Spain. The reason is that they have young firepower, they create miracles on the pitch, and they have an absolutely awesome defence. Although Lamine Yamal has not been in top form for this World Cup, I know that for the final, he is going to do an amazing job.”
Echoing the pro-Argentina sentiment, Rivan Chodankar felt it was a matter of destiny. “I am supporting the team because I think they deserve to win their fourth title. They are a wonderful team, and they have been practicing for more than four hours every single day.”
