India’s star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra will be aiming to reclaim Commonwealth Games glory as he takes centre stage in Glasgow, hoping to add another gold medal to his illustrious career.
The memories of the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast remain significant for Chopra, where he secured his maiden Commonwealth gold before scripting history two years later by becoming the first Indian track and field athlete to win an Olympic gold medal.
Although Chopra has remained one of the world’s leading javelin throwers, he has faced challenges in replicating the same level of dominance over the past six years. Heading into the Glasgow Games, however, the Indian ace appears to be in top physical condition and determined to return to the top of the podium.
The road to gold is expected to be far from easy, with a strong field of competitors in the fray. Among his biggest challengers will be reigning Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan, Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Pathirage, and former world champion Anderson Peters of Grenada.
