The long-awaited dream of home ownership became a reality for hundreds of families in Dabolim on Thursday as Chief Minister Pramod Sawant distributed Goa Housing Board allotment letters to beneficiaries at New Vaddem, Vasco.
A total of 544 tenements have been allotted under the Goa Housing Board’s affordable housing project. During the first phase of the programme, around 150 beneficiaries received their allotment letters, while the remaining letters will be distributed in phases over the coming days.

The allotment ceremony was attended by Transport Minister and Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho, Goa Housing Board Chairman Jit Arolkar, senior government officials, public representatives and hundreds of beneficiaries.
Addressing the gathering, Mauvin Godinho described the occasion as a landmark moment for the Dabolim constituency, saying the project represented years of sustained efforts to provide permanent homes to deserving families. He said the initiative was not just about constructing houses but about ensuring dignity, security and a better quality of life for residents who had waited for years for affordable housing.
Godinho thanked Chief Minister Sawant for supporting the completion of the project and appealed for relief from the Goa Housing Board charges, noting that most beneficiaries belong to economically weaker sections. He urged the government to consider waiving the charges entirely to reduce the financial burden on the allottees.
Responding to the appeal, Chief Minister Sawant announced that beneficiaries would have to pay a maximum of ₹10,000 towards the Goa Housing Board charges. The announcement was greeted with applause from those present.
The Chief Minister congratulated the beneficiaries and reiterated the State Government’s commitment to making affordable housing accessible to every deserving citizen. He said no eligible family should be deprived of owning a home because of financial difficulties and assured that the government would continue implementing welfare measures aimed at improving people’s quality of life.
Goa Housing Board Chairman Jit Arolkar said the Board remains committed to delivering transparent, quality and affordable housing projects across the state. He added that the remaining allotment letters would be distributed in a phased manner and reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to helping eligible families achieve home ownership.
The programme concluded with beneficiaries expressing gratitude to the State Government and Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho for bringing the long-pending housing project to fruition, benefiting 544 families in one of the largest affordable housing initiatives in the Dabolim constituency.
