Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay has completed 100 days in office following his electoral debut and subsequent victory, and his close aide and minister Aadhav Arjuna has offered a glimpse into the Chief Minister’s working style.
According to Arjuna, Vijay works for nearly 18 to 20 hours a day and begins his routine as early as 4 am. The minister said the Chief Minister personally calls ministers during the early hours to seek updates on the functioning of their departments.
“Our leader is working for more than 18 to 20 hours a day. He calls at 4 in the morning and asks what has happened in every department. That is the kind of CM we have,” Arjuna said while speaking at an event in Chennai.
Vijay’s 4 am calls to ministers
Arjuna’s comments highlight what he described as Vijay’s hands-on approach to administration. The Chief Minister, according to the minister, regularly seeks updates from members of his cabinet and wants to know what is happening across different government departments.
The early-morning calls are reportedly part of Vijay’s routine, with the Chief Minister beginning work well before the normal start of the government’s working day.
Arjuna described the schedule as evidence of Vijay’s commitment to his responsibilities as Chief Minister.
‘Political monk’ Vijay
Describing the Chief Minister’s approach to public life, Arjuna called Vijay a “political monk”.
The phrase was used to emphasise the actor-turned-politician’s reportedly intense focus on his new role and the amount of time he devotes to government work.
According to Arjuna, Vijay’s long working hours leave little room for extended breaks, with much of his day focused on administrative matters, departmental updates and government affairs.
The minister’s remarks come as Vijay completes his first 100 days in office, a period that has been closely watched since his transition from Tamil cinema to politics.
From cinema to the Chief Minister’s office
Vijay entered politics through the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) after building a massive following during his career as a film star.
His electoral debut culminated in a significant political victory and his appointment as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister.
Since taking charge, Vijay’s governance style has attracted considerable attention as political observers assess how he is adapting to the responsibilities of running the state.
Arjuna, one of his close political associates, has portrayed the Chief Minister as a leader who prefers to remain closely involved in the day-to-day functioning of the administration.
Focus on department-level work
According to the minister, Vijay’s attention is not limited to major policy decisions. He also seeks updates on individual departments and their ongoing work.
Arjuna said the Chief Minister wants to know what has happened in each department and expects regular information from his ministers.
The reported 4 am calls have therefore become a notable part of the picture Arjuna has presented of Vijay’s leadership style.
As the new administration moves beyond its first 100 days, Vijay’s working methods and governance priorities are expected to remain under close political scrutiny.
Arjuna’s account, meanwhile, portrays a Chief Minister who is attempting to establish an image of an energetic and highly involved administrator, with exceptionally long working hours and early-morning engagement with his ministers.
