Woman killed, two priests injured

A woman was killed and two priests were injured after a speeding, unidentified vehicle allegedly rammed their car from be hind at Insuli near Banda in Sawantwadi late Wednesday evening. The accident occurred when three priests and the woman were travelling from Dadra and Nagar Haveli to Old Goa. The priests were on their way to attend a meeting at the Pasto ral Institute in Old Goa, while the deceased, identified as Ronita Nadge, was travelling to Panjim, where her children are studying.

Dr Russel D’Souza was driving the car when the accident occurred at Insuli. The im pact caused the vehicle to overturn, throwing Nadge out of the car. She died instantly. The other two priests, Fr Anselmo D’Sou za and Fr Francis Pereira, sustained injuries and were admitted to the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim. Fr Russel es caped unhurt. The unidentified vehicle fled the scene without stopping or providing medical assis tance to the victims.

Both injured priests were discharged from GMC after treatment on Friday. PSI Yogesh Rathod of Banda police station, who is inves tigating the case, recorded their statements in Goa on Friday. Banda police have registered a case and launched an investigation to identify the ve hicle involved in the accident. PSI Rathod is conducting further inquiries.
