MARGAO: Fatorda resident Melwin Fernandes has urged Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar to order an inquiry into the permission granted by the Director of Education to start Vth Std classes at Maddona English Primary School, Fatorda without taking into account the feasibility report.
The complaint was lodged more than a week after the Town and Country Planning Board held that the school building is unsafe to accommodate an educational institute and directed the South Goa Planning and Development Authority to implement the order issued under section 52 of the TCP Act.
In fact, Chief Town Planner, S T Puttaraju had held that unauthorised construction have been carried out in violation of prevailing rules and regulations.
The TCP board after deliberations decided not to consider appellant’s request, saying the complainant Melwin Fernandes has produced substantial evidence regarding the safety and hygienic conditions of the buildings. In his submission before the TCP Board, the complainant had submitted that the government departments had confirmed that school buildings are unsafe. “The Collector’s office has issued a letter confirming about unsafe condition of the building. The PWD has also issued report about the instability of the structures. The health department in the inspection report has stated about inadequate sanitary provisions and unhealthy conditions. The education department has given negative report regarding feasibility of opening new school”, the complainant had stated.
