PANJIM: Former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Sanguem MLA Subhash Faldesai has threatened to stop the water supply from Selaulim reservoir to the rest of the State if the water supply issue within Sanguem is not resolved within two months.
Speaking to the media in Panjim, Faldesai said that even after 35 years families who were rehabilitated due to the Selaulim dam project are struggling for water. He said that villages within three kilometres from the dam are not getting proper water supply whereas the water from Sanguem is being supplied to Salcette and Mormugao.
“Farmers from Sanguem are depressed, youth are angry due to this. If the issue is not resolved within two months then over 1000 youths will barge into the water supply plant and stop its supply to Quepem, Salcette and Mormugao,” Faldesai said.
He said that people from Sanguem are opposing IIT because of such examples set by the government. “They are apprehensive that after sacrificing for a cause and betterment of the State, government will take them for granted the way it has happened with the people of Selaulim who had sacrificed,” he said.
Faldesai said that of seven panchayats in Sanguem, five have no water pipeline. “I met the Chief Minister today and explained the issue to him and sought him intervention,” he said.
He also said that some foreign funded NGOs are instigating people in the villages of Sanguem to oppose development projects.
