Newly appointed Congress minority cell chairman Urfan Mulla said that the government failed to fulfill its elections promises to the minorities, including formation of a minority commission, minorities finance and development corporation and kabrastans (Muslim cemetery) in all the talukas.
Speaking on the sidelines of declaration of various minority block committees at Vasco, Mulla said, “The Congress government had made a provision of Rs 5 crore for the minority finance and development corporation. However, the BJP government never formed the corporation.”

Similarly, the demand for setting up a minority commission for Goa and the reservations for the Muslim community too has been kept pending by the BJP, he said.
“We have been facing difficulties in acquiring land for kabrastan in Margao and other talukas. But the government has not paid heed to our needs. Therefore, we have decided that all the office bearers of the minority cell, including me, will sit on a hunger strike at Azad Maidan in a month’s time,” Mulla said.
Meanwhile, Mulla appointed Iniyat Khan as chairman of Vasco minority cell, Siraj Shaikh of Mormugao cell and Amencio Fernades of Nuvem cell.
