CALANGUTE: The Goa Police drive on helmets in the village areas is causing more problems for locals, especially the pedestrians walking along the roads.
Two pedestrians were knocked down by speeding two-wheelers while trying to avoid the cops who were issuing challans to the riders without helmets.
A two-wheeler rider almost knocked down two persons while speeding towards Calangute after he saw police halt riders without helmets. On seeing the rider in break-neck speed, the pedestrians walking towards Saligao jumped into the paddy fields to avoid a major accident on the borders of Calangute-Saligao.
In another incident, a couple on a two-wheeler zoomed past the Goa Police personnel, but knocked down a woman on a cycle causing her minor injuries. The injured woman screamed at the two-wheeler rider while the couple apologized for the wrong doing.
There were many similar incidents due to the Goa Police drive next to the Saligao football grounds, where matches are being played on daily basis. Many football fans were seen grumbling and cursing the police for the drive on village roads. Some had to go away without watching the football match. “Are we to carry our helmets for the football match,” asked a football fan.
