VALPOI: The construction of a new panchayat house in Savardem has come to a halt following an objection by a local family on ground that the land belongs to them.
According to the Panchayat, the Mokasdar family had encroached on its land and is now claiming that it belongs to them. The Form I & XIV and survey plan shows very clearly that the land belongs to the panchayat.
“We have conducted a survey of the land through the Valpoi mamlatdar and survey title clearly shows that it’s a Panchayat land,” said the Panchayat secretary.
“Few years back some villagers had planted coconuts, banana and areca nut trees on panchayat land and now they are troubling us claiming the land now belongs to them. The previous Panchayat body did not take any action against these people. So now we have written a letter to the Bicholim deputy collector. And now with the guidance of deputy collector we will conduct the survey of the land again and fix the boundary of the Panchayat land,” Sarpanch Ashok Chari said.
