The clock is ticking minutes and hours as the calendar turns months and years slip into oblivion. Our heart is a clicking clock which switches our life on at birth; and switches off at death; and within this period, our life clock ticks steadily; collecting our deeds and shortening the journey to the grave; as it did for our ancestors yesterday, it is doing for us today
God in His Time will call us. In an instant we may be required to leave this world and go to the mansion prepared in our Father’s heavenly house to rest with Him if we only obey His commandments and hear His voice. But the unclean before the judgment-seat of God, will be cast into Hell.
The time to prepare to move towards the celestial glory where Heavenly Father has prepared for His faithful children is now; tomorrow may be too late as we do not know when death will come and we will be judged by the Lord.
But many may ask: how to prepare? I am reminded of Oscar Wilde’s story about the miracles which goes like this: Jesus saw a man lying on a couch with his lips red with wine. Jesus asked, “Why do you live like this?” The young man answered, “I was a leper once and you healed me. How else should I live?” Jesus left in silence and then in the street he saw a young man chasing a playful damsel. Jesus asked him, “Why do you look at this woman with such vice?” The young man replied, “Once I was blind and you gave me sight. And what else should I look at?” Despite receiving the blessing from Christ many of us lose sight of the Eternal life. We live wickedly in this world with cruelty, murders and sexual immorality and ask how to prepare form Heavenly bliss.
The greatest commandment, Jesus said, ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind’ and to ‘love your neighbour as yourselves’ (Mt.22:37-39). ‘The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many (Mark 10:45)
According to Ralph Waldo Emerson, “The purpose of life is to be useful, to be honourable to be compassionate ….” It means don’t let a good deed go undone, keep it going as expressed in the song “The Chain of Love” where Joe while driving his car saw a lady’s car stopped with a flat tire. He stopped and changed the tire for her, and after she asked how much she should pay him, Joe replied that she can repay him by continuing “the chain of love”.
The time to reform is now. It is often said, “If a person happens to lose money, there is always the possibility of making up that loss through hard work in future. If anyone suffer from stains of character, it is possible to reform it through self effort. The time to reform is now when we are still here in this world.
Naked we have come and naked we have to go, leaving only the memory of kind or harsh words spoken and helpful or harmful deeds done during our days on earth. Small or big, they be, they conquer mighty death to live in the hearts of those we leave behind.
