CURCHOREM: Accepting the demands of the relatives and friends of late Michael Cunha (45), resident of Bobrumoddi, Quepem, who had died in a road accident at Paroda on January 22, Quepem Police Inspector Burtano Peixote handed over the investigation of the accident to PSI Arun Endro from PSI Remedious D’Souza.
On Sunday relatives, friends and some neighbours of the late Cunha along with ward councillor Manuel Colaco called on Quepem PI Peixote and demanded to change the investigating officer for delay and poor investigation carried out by PSI D’Souza.
Claiming lapses in the investigation, Councillor Colaco said that the police arrested the driver of the bus on the next day even though he was present at the police station on the day of the accident and subsequently he was released on bail on the same day.
“The PSI conducted the investigating irresponsibly as he failed to mention anything about the scooter and bus in his panchanama report,” Colaco said and informed that when they brought this to the notice of PI Peixote, he inspected both the vehicles and found the paint marks of the bus on the right side guard of the scooter and found bruised rubber handle of the scooter of which the marks was seen on the left side door and other area of the bus.
Colaco further informed that when they asked why his blood samples were not sent for testing to verify whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol, PI Peixote informed them that Hospicio Hospital authorities refused to accept the blood samples as they found it was not sealed properly.
Expressing the doubts of tempering blood samples, Dylan Diniz said that police took more than 5 hours to take the driver for medical check-up and it was done deliberately to save the driver from the offence he committed.
According to his friends, Cunha was returning home after delivering a parcel which he brought from London just two days prior to his accident.
It is learnt that delegation will meet Qupem RTO and doctors at Primary Health Centre, Quepem on Monday.
It may be recalled that Cunha was died on the spot when the passenger bus proceeding to Quepem from Margao hit the scooter while overtaking without the knowledge of the driver and the bus was stopped only after passengers shouted to stop.
