“The calculated use of unlawful violence, threat to inculcate fear intended to coerce, intimidate communities or candidates in pursuit of goals that are political or ideological as has been brazenly displayed by the BJP elements in Chicalim recently are a blot on democracy and needs to be condemned in strongest terms,” stated Dr Jorson Fernandes, president of United Goans Democratic Party.

Condemning the audacity of so-called Catholics and supporters of Dabolim MLA and Panchayat and Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho to threaten the unopposed elected candidate and the rude and unruly behaviour while talking to the family and Fr Bolmax, Dr Jorson stressed that these acts committed for a political and ideological purpose with the intention of intimidating the community, amounts to alleged terrorism and verbal assault.

“Such acts seriously disturb peace and peace-loving Goans, de-stabilising or destroying the fundamental political and social structures of our democratic country. Violence, threats and politically motivated tactics are among the key descriptions used to define terrorism. Today, influence, coercion and fear are considered as critical characteristics of terrorism. It is reactionary terrorism,” articulated Dr Jorson.

“The unethical means used and the wild and unruly behaviour of the men confirms the trademark of BJP and the ‘Jungle Raaj’ and that these political animals are not worth even to be kept in the zoo,” remarked Dr Jorson.

“It is the trademark of political violence to strengthen the position of a group or political party or to make an opposition weak. It is the new norm of the present dispensation and it is rightly called as aggressive political behaviour, that needs to be checked,” asserted Dr Jorson.
