PANJIM: In an attempt to protect his turf, Congress’ St Cruz MLA Atanasio (Babush) Monserrate, who has been lately singing Bharatiya Janata Party tunes, has fielded three candidates in his stronghold St Cruz and Taleigao for the Zilla Panchayat elections, against the BJP-MGP alliance. Of the three, is an incumbent ZP member, while another is the sitting St Cruz Sarpanch.
Monserrate has backed sitting ZP member Sydney Barreto from Taleigao, sitting Sarpanch Sauanna Araujo from St Cruz and Sudesh Kalangutkar (OBC) from Chimbel ZP. While the BJP will contest the Taleigao ZP seat, the St Cruz and Chimbel ZP seats have been allocated to its ally, the MGP. MGP has fielded Disha Kavlekar from St Cruz and Sandip Vernekar (OBC) from Chimbel.
