The legal metrology department has managed to meet the revenue collection target in the last financial year. In fact its revenues crossed that of the preceding FY.
The collection of verification charges on weighbridges and operation charges on mobile cranes from mining companies ceased since September last year.

Controller Vishwas Naik told reporters that the department has borne an annual loss of about Rs 13 lakh on verification charges on weighbridges, and Rs 10 lakh which comes from petrol and diesel outlets, and oil tanks.
The department would otherwise collect Rs 2,000 as verification charges on weighbridges and Rs 5,000 as operational charges from mining companies on the mobile kit.
However, he said, the overall revenue collection has not been affected.
In 2011-12, the collection was Rs 1.24 crore. This rose to Rs 1.83 crore in 2012-13. “We stressed more on booking cases, increased inspections and raised the fine amount,” he said.
