Locals oppose sewerage plant in Curti

Claim the plant will come up near their residence which could cause problems of pollution in the future

PONDA: The Housing Board Colony locals at Curti who are opposing to Sewerage Plant in their locality once again yesterday opposed the laying of pipelines and installing of the machinery for operating a sewerage treatment plant in their area. The Locals sent back the huge trailer truck which had come to the site with loaded machinery. They opposed the unloading the heavy machinery at the proposed STP site in their area.
The Government had proposed 8 MLD Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) at Housing Board Colony at Curti was strongly opposed by locals as well as well as the Panchayat Body. They argued that it came close to the residential area and could cause pollution in future. The locals who formed a committee had been opposing the plant for over a year. Their constant agitation forced the Curti Khandepar Panchayat to take note and they directed the Sewerage Department to stop the Work on STP at Curti.
When asked as to the reason for the opposition, the Sarpanch of Curti Khandepar Santan Fernandis said it came close to the residential area and the   Panchayat had not given an NOC to the STP. The gramsabha had passed a resolution against providing a NOC to the Project. The Sewerage Department had based on a  proposal passed in 2014.
