PANJIM: The State government will conduct a detailed inspection of the 7.74 km long NH66 bypass road linking Charasta to Mashem, after the retaining wall that developed major crack, had to be demolished.
Heavy rainfall and alleged faulty construction led to cracks to the retaining wall of the newly-built vehicular over bridge at Charasta in Canacona, and the wall was later demolished.
Speaking to Herald, Public Works Minister Ramakrishna (Sudin) Dhavalikar said the department will inspect the bypass and accordingly direct the contractor to rebuild it. “We will have to conduct an inspection to know whether it was faulty. Only then necessary action can be taken,” he said.
“The contractor will have to rebuild the retaining wall for now without any extra payment. Also, if we find that the remaining construction is faulty then, the contractor will have to redo it entirely,” the Minister said.
Dhavalikar added that the department has been directed to hold back payments to the contractor.
