State okays relief policy for crime victims

Scheme drafted as per the directions of the SC for providing funds or purpose of compensation to the women victims or her dependents

PANJIM: Coming to the aid of women, victims of various heinous and other crimes, the State Government has drawn up a relief policy under which a gang rape victim will be paid upto Rs 10 lakhs while Rs 7 lakhs to the rape victim.
State Cabinet on Thursday accorded its approval to the ‘Goa Compensation Scheme for Women Victims/ Survivors of Sexual Assault/ other crimes 2018’, under which victims are paid between Rs 1 lakh to Rs 10 lakhs depending upon gravity of the crime.
The scheme has been drafted as per the directions of the Supreme Court for providing funds or purpose of compensation to the women victims or her dependents that have suffered loss, injury, as a result of the offence committed and required rehabilitation.  
As per the scheme, for loss of life a minimum of Rs 5 lakhs and maximum Rs 10 lakhs will be compensated to the dependents. The gang rape victim will be given relief between Rs 5 lakhs to 10 lakhs, while the rape victim will get between Rs 4 lakhs to 7 lakhs. In case of unnatural sexual assault the victim is liable of compensation between Rs 4 lakhs to 7 lakhs and in case of 80 percent disability it is between Rs 2 lakhs to Rs 5 lakhs.
If there is any grievous physical injury or any mental injury requiring rehabilitation, then the compensation provided would be between Rs 1 lakh – Rs 2 lakh.
In case of miscarriage as a result of assault or loss of fertility, then the compensation would vary between Rs 2 lakhs to Rs 3 lakhs and in case of pregnancy on account of rape then it is Rs 3 lakhs.
For the victims of acid attack, in case of disfigurement of face, the compensation varies from Rs 7 lakhs to Rs 8 lakhs, if injury is 50 percent and above then compensation would be between Rs 5 lakhs and 8 lakhs, injury less than 50 percent then Rs 3 lakhs – Rs 7 lakhs and in case of injury less than 20 percent then it is between Rs 3 lakhs to Rs 4 lakhs.
The victims of burning, in case of disfigurement of face, the compensation varies from Rs 7 lakhs to Rs 8 lakhs, if injury is 50 percent and above then compensation would be between Rs 5 lakhs and 8 lakhs, injury less than 50 percent then Rs 3 lakhs – Rs 7 lakhs and in case of injury less than 20 percent then it is between Rs 2 lakhs and Rs 3 lakhs.
