MARGAO: BJP Calangute MLA Michael Lobo and Independent MLA Vijai Sardesai have joined the chorus of opposition against government’s move to impose censorship on tiatr, with the Calangute MLA sounding a warning to the government not to play with fire, saying that government and politicians should not interfere with tiatr.
Sardesai, on the other hand, urged Goans to brace up to take to the streets if the government goes ahead with the move to censor tiatr.
Lobo told the media on the sidelines of Sardesai’s Big Fat Carnival Blast at Fatorda on Saturday that the government will be making a big mistake by censoring tiatr. “I do not think my government will censor tiatr. But, even if one or two individuals want to bring in censorship, it will be kept aside. Tiatr only highlights the good and exposes the evil since the Portuguese era,” he said.
Reminding that tiatrists have played a big role in BJP’s return to power in the 2012 Assembly polls, Lobo said Independent MLAs from South Goa were elected with the blessings of the tiatrists. “I will stand by the tiatrists. If anybody is trying to censor tiatr, they are playing with fire. The government and the officials should not interfere with tiatr and tiatrists,” Lobo said.
