Guv urges private sector to help govt combat COVID-19

PANJIM:  Seeking support of private and industrial sector in containing the spread of COVID 19 in the State, Goa Governor Satya Pal Malik has urged big players to come forward to help in building and offering hospitals and quarantine facilities dedicated to supporting coronavirus cases.

The governor has also appealed to the private sector along with hotels to provide free food and accommodation to the needy including daily wage workers and labourers. 

He also spoke about the current global crisis and the fact that Goa has recorded three positive cases.  “Tackling this challenge requires a systematic approach and mobilisation of all stakeholders especially the private sectors to respond,” he added.

The Governor further urged the private sectors/ business houses to play an important role in ensuring the supplies of protective equipments and medical devices to the government. He also said that the businesses that have manufacturing capabilities can repurpose their manufacturing plants to contribute to the supply chain of critical medical products such as personal protective equipments, N95 respiratory face masks and hand sanitizers. 

“Those private labs who have been given go ahead for COVlD—19 tests, can make significant contribution by testing at zero cost to the poor,” said the Governor.

Urging the establishments to be sympathetic towards their employees during the current crisis, the Governor called on ensuring that their staff, especially those who are not on permanent contract, continue to be paid.

He added that apart from government, it’s also the responsibility of the private business to extend help to take care of the less privileged people, like the migrant workers, the daily wages workers, below poverty line people, who survive on daily wages during this crisis time, by providing free food and offering shelter as a nobel contribution. 

The Governor added that the only way to fight this pandemic is coming together and helping each other and that the contribution will help the State in a big way.

He has also appealed to the private players and industrialists to contribute to COVID relief fund.
