58 kids get football kits in Canacona

CANACONA: Goa Football Development Council (GFDC) on Friday distributed football kits to all the 58 children undergoing coaching at Canacona centre.

The kits were distributed by Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) Chairperson Simon Rebello in the presence of GFDC Chairman Dr Rufino Monteiro at a function at Devabhaga football ground.
Speaking on the occasion, Rebello lauded the GFDC initiatives being taken to improve the game of football, especially in the rural pockets like Canacona.
“It’s only a matter of striking the right chord, as Canacona has talent not only to take on the State-level limelight, but Thursday’s Athletico de Calcutta’s win over FC Goa in the ISL match, riding on two goals scored by striker Kevin Lobo (who happens to be from Canacona).”
“If youngsters take to sports with dedication, there won’t be any need to demand government jobs, as sports itself can take one to greater and much better future,” Rebello added.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Monteiro assured all possible help to bring improvements in sports especially football and among the youth of Canacona.
GFDC members Shantaram Naik and Glen D’Souza were also present on the occasion.
Canacona Sports Academy President Janardhan Bhandari welcomed, while secretary Sharendra Naik compered and proposed the vote of thanks.
