Incessant rain fills mining pit in Bicholim, locals demand precautionary action

Bicholim: The constant rains in past two days have filled the mining pits in Bicholim to a worrisome level and locals have expressed concern over the same. The villages such as Kudne, Sankhali, Gavthan, Pisurle, Shirgao, Paira, Velge, Lamgaon and Mulgaon have multiple such pits and the water level can even cause landslides.

The pumping of water out from the trenches is currently underway at few sites but there is no specialised emergency system in place to counter this situation. The pits, especially at Lamgaon, is a risky one as last year in August the water had dissipated to a school building as well as farms.
