MAPUSA: Cuncolim Warriors edged past Goa Velha Saints 1-0 in the Vedanta Women’s League organised by Goa Football Association and played at Duler Stadium, Mapusa on Thursday.
Vailanka D’Souza scored the lone goal in the game which eventually won her the most valuable player of the game award.
Cuncolim started the game off as a stronger side and pressed on from the word go. The Warriors were missing the services of their striker Somaya Mukundar, but nothing seemed to have stopped them as they the lead in the 25th minute of the game through Vailanka D’Souza who tapped the ball over the keeper in a one on one situation.
Before that, Vailanka failed to time her run in the 11th minute as the Saints keeper was fast to clear the danger.
With a goal lead, the Saints dominated play and we’re close to finding the equalizer through Avia Vas, whose shot off a free kick was straight to the Cuncolim keeper.
Moving over into the second half, Goa Velha Saints were close to finding the equaliser through Tercy Pinto, whose shot was cleared by Malvita Mascarenhas of Cuncolim.
The last quarter of the game saw the Cuncolim Warriors goalkeeper come out and save the long balls out across by the Saints.
For Cuncolim Warriors, Vailanka’s shot was blocked again in the 67th minute by the Saints defence.
