MARGAO, SEPT 12
There’s good news in store for Colva village, hit by discharge of sewage waters into the adjoining creek.
If local MLA Mickky Pacheco is to be believed, the entire area from the Colva Church right up to the Beach will be taken up for beautification at a whopping cost of Rs eight crore.
Interacting with newsmen after flagging off the anti-plastic drive this morning, Pacheco said that the government had sanctioned funds to the tune of Rs 16 crore for beautification of the beach belt from Benaulim to Betalbatim.
“I will take up the beautification work from next month. Lot many establishments have come up along the creek over the years. I had discussed the matter of sewage disposal with the panchayat as the establishments discharge their waste in the creek”, he said.
Replying to a question, he said the Centre had sanctioned funds to the tune of Rs 43 crore for tourism related projects, but said that the funds were being utilized for other purposes. I wonder how the government would contribute their component when there is a deficit”, he said.
Replying to another question, he said that the Panchayat body is the right authority to tackle the issue of sewage and garbage disposal.
