MARGAO: Reacting to the notification issued by the Goa Legislative Secretariat for only a four-day Assembly Session, Leader of Opposition (LoP) Yuri Alemao lamented that such curtailed Assembly sessions deprive the Opposition MLAs of their right to move bills.
“MLA Viresh Borkar had given notice for the introduction of a ‘Person of Goan Origin Bill’, Vijai Sardesai, for a Bill on Employment for Goans while Venzy Viegas had prepared a Bill on Cruelty to Animals. Although the Bills were sent to the Law Department last time, the Opposition will not get the opportunity to even introduce these Bills this time,” said Alemao on Thursday. “I am sad that this schedule will deprive me of my right to introduce a Bill or Resolution on Stopping Unjust Practice of Widow Discrimination in Goa. I was assured by the CM during the last Session that the government will have detailed deliberations on the issue. It appears that the government is not keen to give respect, dignity and freedom to women in Goa,” Alemao added.

“This session will effectively have only three days allotted for Business of House. I hope the Speaker will convene a Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting soon, so I can demand that the first session go on for a minimum of two to three weeks,” he added.
