GPP’s golden jubilee seminar
PANJIM: As part of the golden jubilee year celebrations of Government Polytechnic, Panjim (GPP), the Department of Humanities and Science, GPP, under the guidance of its head of department of humanities and science Dr D.C.S Gaitonde, will organize a State level seminar on ‘personality enrichment’ for support staff of technical institutes under the Directorate of Technical Education on February 4 at Goa State Museum Hall, Panjim.
The seminar will dwell on ‘the art of parenting’ by Dilip Betkikar; ‘improving work ethics’ by P. R. Nadkarni; `living healthy and happy’ by Sandesh Barajankar with a view to highlight the role played by the support staff, and motivate the members to continue rendering their services with zeal and enthusiasm.
Details may be obtained from advisory committee chairman L.R. Fernandes, GPP principal, or D.C.S Gaitonde, chairman of organising committee or organising committee convenor Pallavi Samant, lecturer in communication skills, or programme coordinator Kezia Lopes, lecturer in mathematics.

Hunger strike call
MARGAO: The president of Fatorda Development Committee has threatened to go on an indefinite hunger strike if the government fails to solve the Vasco rape case.
Committee President Camilo Barretto told newsmen that the Chief Minister had promised to achieve a breakthrough in the case within eight days. “I want to tell the government that if the police fails to solve the case within eight days, I will go on an indefinite hunger strike,” he said.
Barretto lashed out at the government and the police for scuttling the Fatorda bandh last Sunday called to protest against the police failure to arrest the accused in the rape of the seven-year-girl student.
Youth held for rape
MARGAO: Cuncolim police has arrested a 21-year old boy for allegedly raping a minor girl. Cuncolim police inspector Raju Raut Dessai informed that the minor girl of 17 and half years had complained that she was sexually assaulted by the boy. Further investigation is on.
Get together of ex-students
MARGAO: The ex-Paulites Association of Goa is organising a get together of all ex-students of St Paul’s High School, Belgaum, on February 3, at Loyola High School, Margao. The program will begin with Eucharistic celebration at 10.30 am which will concelebrated by ex-Paulites, Fr Ronnie D’Souza, S J Fr Basil Wagho S J, Fr Desmond Saldanha, SJ and Fr Anand D’Souza, SJ. The Eucharistic celebration will be followed by snacks and games, including Housie.
PI asserts on self-defence
MARGAO: Curchorem Police station in-charge PI Sidhanth Shirodkar on Saturday said that training in martial arts can save many women from being victims of rape and sexual assault.
“Women should learn the techniques of defending themselves from an attack and should keep physically and mentally fit,” Shirodkar said while speaking at the legal awareness-cum-self-defense techniques camp organized for the girl students by G R Kare Law College in association with Salcete Taluka Legal Services Authority. Secretary, South Goa District Legal Services Authority, N S Amonkar, said that education and imparting good moral values to all children can drastically bring down the crime rate. He said that the fear of laws alone cannot deter the criminal from committing a crime. Adv Pritam Morais stressed on the need to strengthen the existing laws and make punishment for rape more stringent so that the criminal is deterred from committing the crime.
