Goa gets its first Konkani action thriller

Goan cinema is reaching new heights with films that are breaking away from the norms of Konkani films while still retaining the essence that makes them truly Goan. The latest product that will join the roster is ‘Nosha’, the first Konkani action thriller. Café has the details

Get
set, Goa! For you are soon to witness the first
Konkani action thriller feature film!
‘Noshaa’,
a
commercial feature film by
Ambition Productions,
has been creating quite a buzz for its action sequences and fresh
storyline. The climax of the film is said to be based on a true
story. The film
has already attracted overseas distributors even before a
trailer release or the official
music launch.

Konkani
cinema
took a giant
leap with ‘Nachom-ia
Kumpasar’
stealing the show in Goa and abroad and winning accolades no other
Konkani film
has achieved
till date. It
is now the highest grosser and has also won the
award for Best
Music at the United International Film Festival (UIFF) in
Hollywood,
Los Angeles.
Offering
another element to Konkani cinema is ‘Noshaa’ which has a unique
story that centres around the antagonist.

While
most Konkani filmmakers have shied away from making action or
thriller films, the few who did try their hand at it, were rather
unsuccessful. So when Ambition
Productions, the brainchild of Edison Gomes,
along with the co-producer
and writer,
stepped forward to produce such a film, it garnered quite a bit of
attention. But Edison
is
quite confident that ‘Noshaa’
will be a game-changer for Goan cinema. He states that, unlike any
other Konkani film so far, ‘Noshaa’
will serve a generous dose of action sequences, 6 to be precise,
in the
runtime of 2
hours
and 17
minutes.
These sequences have been choreographed by Edison and his team.

Team
‘Noshaa’
has proudly
announced that this film
has been
produced by
an entirely Goan team with the whole film being shot in Goa. The
makers add that some of the locations selected can surely give any
big-budget Bollywood film a run for its money.
The
movie also
boasts 7 soundtracks covering
genres such as
rock, hard rock, pop and rap. And
while the genres might be international, the music has been produced
by Goan artistes
and musicians. The producer is highly confident that the songs he has
produced will top of the playlists
of the Goan youth once the music is released.

In
a chat with Café, Edison
reveals
that the entire cast of the film is Goan and was selected after
conducting proper auditions at different venues across the state. “I
am confident that ‘Noshaa’
will be a great success because our
cast and crew – the entire team – has put in all their efforts
and passion into making it,”
he
asserts. He
adds that this is the first
Konkani movie to
use techniques
like colour
grading and the
Da Vinci
software for production which presently is used only in Hollywood
films.
Edison also claims
that Goa has so much talent for film
production that they
never found it necessary to venture
out of Goa to find help for production and post production. Royce da
Costa,
a post production free lancer,
has entirely edited and post produced the movie,
and according to Edison,
Royce is a gem of talent that
was otherwise
unused in Goa.

The
male
lead of the film, Amod
Mardolkar,
is a five-time
Mr Goa title winner in bodybuilding
while the
female lead,
Merlyn D’Silva,
has 13 beauty pageant titles in her kitty.
The second
lead Elvis Mascarenhas is the only Konkani actor who has worked in a
Bollywood
film,
‘Jackpot’,
as well as numerous Konkani
movies. In addition,
Former MLA of Fatorda Damu Naik, Govind Lotliker and P Agnelo
Fernandes have also played important roles in the film.

Edison
has also roped in a Goan, Mark Revlon Fernandes,
who is the only Indian to
have contested
in Voice of UK,
to sing for the film.
The soundtrack
also includes
songs sung by
‘Nachom-ia
Kumpasar’
fame Cielda
Pereira and
Voice of Goa talents Akash Telgu and Sabino.

With
500 characters in the frame, all of which
are Goans,
‘Noshaa’
will hit theatres in July and the trailer
and music of the film
will soon
reach various
media platforms.
