PANJIM: National Institute of Personnel Management, Goa chapter in association with Herald Publications will be holding a half day seminar titled ‘Manage me, Lead u’ on October 20 at the Goa Chamber of Commerce Hall, Panjim in the first half of the day.  The program is open to all professionals engaged or likely to be engaged soon, in a supervisory or leadership role. It can also help anyone in their own personal lives.
Life in today’s world is full of stress in our personal and professional lives. We require to manage ourselves before we set out to lead others. Before you can lead others, you must first be able to know your true self.Self-management is a key skill that will help you throughout your life. It involves setting goals and managing your time. Developing your motivation and concentration skills which will help you overcome the lure of procrastination. The kind of skills that one requires to manage self are stress resistance, problem solving, communication, memory etc.
Self-management is the ability to understand and regulate your own emotions and use them to guide your behaviour towards positive outcomes.
Be self-disciplined. That’s what adults are supposed to ‘grow up’ to be, is something that we all hear but how do we practice this is one of the components of this program. We will have two speakers on the first part of the topic of ‘Manage me’.
Once we have achieved self-management, we can move ahead to lead others. The art of leading others is sometimes inborn and sometimes acquired through techniques and experiences. Our second set of speakers will throw light on ‘Lead U’ by sharing techniques and real life examples. Who are you? What do you value?
What do you stand for? What do you desire? When you start with uncovering the authentic you, you can then move from self-awareness to the awareness of others. It will become easier to manage others then by putting yourself in their shoes, by leading by example, by setting goals together.
I would like to quote a famous personality who said ‘A person always doing his or her own best becomes a natural leader just by example’. And this would sum up the topic in entirety.
