Goa has been the centre of music and a kinder garden for
musicians. Musicians from Goa are playing their favourite instruments around
the world on land and sea. The favourite instruments being played here are
Violin, Guitar, Piano, Saxophone, Trumpet, Cello and many more.
“For some reason though, the Harmonica or Mouth Organ is one
which never got any acceptance as a serious instrument. In western countries
like Europe, America and Brazil, the Diatonic Harp (another name for Harmonica)
is very popular amongst the Blues and Country musicians. In recent years though
the Chromatic Mouth organ has gained extraordinary popularity in China ,
Southeast Asia, Japan and India. While South East Asian countries are using
instrument for western classical our own Indian musicians are playing Bollywood
songs to glory, :says Dileep Naik, who has performed at multiple concerts in
Goa and his grandson Rohan has already become a sensation on the world circuit.
Rohan has already become a hit on the Goan circuit as well and the grandfather
–grandson duo are about to help Goans learn how to play this instrument and
more.
This Saturday on June , 2 Garden Central Music Studio is
organizing a workshop at its premises, near Panjim Municipal Garden, for the
benefit of Goan music lovers to get a feel and learn a few basic techniques of
Mouth Organ playing. The workshop is being conducted by Rohan Singhal and
Dileep Naik.
Rohan Singhal is a Child Prodigy in Mouthorgan and is now well
known in the Mouth organ fraternity from America to Japan. Last year in the
World Harmonica Festival in Trossingen, Germany, he stood 3rd in competition
and was given the opportunity to play on every platform with leading bands. In
England he got first position and was given honour of playing in many events.
He plays the Diatonic harp in a variety of genres, ranging from
Blues to Bollywood music. He is only 12 years old but has played in many
countries like Great Britain, Germany, France , Holland, Australia, Japan ,
Hong Kong etc.
“Age is no limit and young kids to senior citizens can start
learning without hesitation. There are hundreds of seniors who picked up the
instrument after 50 and 60 and are now performing on stage or at family
gatherings, regularly. The instrument has therapeutic value to improve lungs
and breathing for seniors,” says Dilieep Naik.
“It is an excellent opportunity for all in Goa. Come and

The workshop is from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Garden Central Music
Studio, Panjim on Saturday.
