One of the globally most-awaited
television premieres, in the form of ‘Game of Thrones’, was back on air for its
seventh season, early on Monday morning in India, and the fans’ expectations
seemed to be higher than ever. This in itself wasn’t surprising, given the
nature of Season 6.

The premiere, titled ‘Dragonstone’,
kicks off with what, at first, would seem to be a flashback to when old Walder
Frey was congratulating his men on their nifty work in mass murder at the Red
Wedding of season three, and rewarding them with a feast. However, there is
still much to be discovered there, between the lines. With just 13 episodes to
go, spread across two seasons, there has been speculation about an increase in
pace in this penultimate season, with tension set to fly. However, it’s best
that the fans speak themselves about what they felt of the re-appearance of the
popular show.
Food and beverage professional, Akio
Fernandes’s build-up to the season premier was splashed across his social media
handles, and his fervour for the episode about to air was evident, including
his beseeching of people to not let the cat out of the bag on the same
platforms, until everyone had had a fair chance to watch the episode in
question. “It was a great season premiere. The wait this time was very long,
but absolutely worth it after yesterday’s opener. The episode started on a very
powerful note and it just carried on from there. It was a pleasure to once
again see all the faces we’ve grown accustomed to, almost like family, and of
course, not forgetting a special cameo appearance by a certain celebrity. Every
character has now matured and is doing things or is in a position that not only
they, but we the viewers, would have never imagined they would be in, six years
ago, when the show first came out. The plot for the rest of the season has been
well laid-out, and every storyline and character was given their airtime, which
was great. It looks like this is going to be one hell of a season,” he shares
in hindsight, being careful enough to not let any spoilers slip in the process.
For media professional, Prajakta Joshi, ‘Game
of Thrones’ is a way of life. Known to her closest of friends and allies as
GoT-pedia, she can probably rival George RR Martin in his knowledge of the
series. “I loved the beginning of the episode for sure; it was quite powerful.
The season premieres aren’t usually very action-packed, and tend to lay a
foundation for all the storylines that are going to follow in the rest of the
season. So to be fair, I loved the episode, but I am certainly looking forward
to a much more ‘happening’ season ahead,” she shares, with much excitement for
what is still in store.
This same excitement similarly resonates
within radio jockey, Alroy Fernandes, who simply states, “The television
premiere of ‘Game of Thrones’ definitely lived up to the expectations it had
set amongst its fans. I knew that the episode would be a build-up for the
remainder of the season. In that regard, I’m really happy; and the guest cameo
was a good surprise too. All in all, I am happy.”
The official
synopsis from HBO for Episode 2 reads: ‘Daenerys receives an unexpected
visitor. Jon faces a revolt. Tyrion plans the conquest of Westeros.’ There is
also a much awaited reunion between Arya Stark and her long-lost direwolf,
Nymeria. All of that being said, one can’t seem to wait for the next week (and
with it, next episode) to roll around.
