An FIR has been registered against former cricketer-turned-actor Yograj Singh in Chandigarh over alleged anti-women remarks made in the web series Lukkhe. The complaint, filed on May 14 by advocates Ujjwal Bhasin and Jatin Verma, alleged that a viral scene from the series carried misogynistic remarks that insulted working women and hurt public sentiments. Following the FIR, Yograj has approached the court seeking anticipatory bail.
According to reports, Yograj’s counsel argued before the court that the controversial dialogue was part of a scripted performance and that the actor was contractually bound to portray the character as written. The court has issued notices to the state government and sought its response by May 20.
Reacting briefly to the controversy, Yograj’s younger son Victor Singh avoided making detailed comments. Speaking to the media, he said the family would refrain from commenting further due to legal considerations and contractual obligations linked to the project.
The controversy erupted after a clip from the series went viral online, where Yograj’s character allegedly stated that a woman’s place is “at the stove during the day and for intimacy at night,” while referring to a female police officer. The dialogue drew criticism on social media, with several users calling it offensive and regressive.
This is not the first time Yograj has courted controversy. In the past, he made explosive remarks against former India captain MS Dhoni, accusing him of damaging Yuvraj Singh’s career. He also claimed in an interview that he once went to Kapil Dev’s house with a pistol after being dropped from the team, though he later abandoned the idea. Yuvraj had publicly apologised to both Dhoni and Kapil Dev for his father’s remarks.
Also featuring Raashii Khanna, Palak Tiwari and King, the series revolves around Punjab’s underground rap scene and a covert mission to expose a narcotics network. The show recently faced separate backlash from sections of the Sikh community over the use of the name “Gurbani” for a character portrayed by Raashii Khanna.
