To channelize this craze a number of teams/firms have been instrumental in promoting the same. In this, we can say Dempo and Salgaocar among others have been in the forefront for about 50 years. Now they have been barred from entering the grounds – for what? A dubious decision wherein it is said that they viewed some recorded footage. Was it a full one or a doctored one ? These doubts come to our mind as we have seen biased and partisan action of the officials whenever FC Goa played.
Another doubt that comes to our mind is whether that the match was fixed by someone and the officials had to produce that result of Goa losing. These doubts arise as there must have been heavy betting on Goa winning. A different result could bring a lot of earnings to some people. Whatever may be the reasons the penalty and the punishment imposed is too grave, which makes it look that it is the beginning of the end of FC Goa in particular and football hopes of India in general. With ISL we had a fond hope that it would bring a lot of changes in the future of the game in this country. But it looks like that hope is crushed before it turns into a reality.
FC Goa should not participate in ISL with 15 docked points and a huge fine. No one should pay this fine because it is unjust and arbitrary. Banning of Goan promoters like Dempo and Salgaocar, who have sacrificed for the cause of this game is also harsh and uncalled for. Let ISL go on without a Goan team. Now to add we see Goan teams withdrawing from I-League as it has been made 2nd Division of the football leagues in India.
Let me say that Football in India will never be the same without Goa and Goan teams. No Goan was selected to represent the Youth team. Do you mean to say that there are no young Goans fit to be a part of Team India ? It is unbelievable for all of us and very difficult to digest. It looks like a plan to keep Goans out. If we want the standard of Football to improve let the administrators be clean and honest with dedication and sincerity. They should utilize the money received from International Football Federation to develop football be used for the same and not finance their trips for lnternational events and meetings. Even poor African Nations like Ghana, Nigeria, etc. have developed and qualified for World cup. We do not even stand anywhere in Asia wherein our neighboring nations are performing better than us.
A small country like Ice land with 3.5 lakhs (i.e. less than quarter of the population of Goa has reached quarter finals of Euro cup and we in India with millions almost equal or may be more than the population of whole of Europe cannot even break into 100 of FIFA ranking. God help us to change things for better future.
