Hate or hatred is an extreme emotional dislike, which raises feelings of anger against groups or a single person to destroy them or him.
Hate originates from some guilt, pride, jealousy or for many other reasons. When one become jealous one cultivates hatred; from hatred flows of revengeful thoughts; from revengeful thinking comes devious actions. A wall of hate seems to prevent anybody from listening to reason because hatred is blind.
We cannot hide hate for long. Our actions speak louder than our words for example, we have heard someone saying — “…eating the meat of their own mother (eating beef) should be hanged.” The hatred in the mind fights to show one’s power. We have seen how human beings are lynched and accused of eating beef. We have heard about dangerous issues of ‘Ghar Wapsi’, vandalising of Christian Churches. Some organisations motivated by political protection take the law in their own hands with no fear of the rules of the land; no respect for human life; no regard to the constitution. An evil mind will show in evil action sooner or later like the wolf and the shepherd in Aesop’s fables.
Although, Jesus Christ taught his devotees how to pray: “My Lord, please forgive me as I forgive others who have trespassed me.” Yes, in forgiving we are forgiven. But in the world we live in, people cannot forgive what someone had done to their forefathers a thousand years ago — they still hate and want revenge. Their ‘Hate’ lasts for generations, even centuries; probably, because it becomes difficult to forgive.
Hatred has never done any good. i) One may be super talented and rich, but if one is super selfish as well, then, one will neither be successful nor happy; because it has cruel effects on the hater as it becomes a mental and emotional disorder on hater’s behaviour. ii) Through violence one may murder the hater, but one cannot murder hate. If hate is not curbed immediately, the baggage of grudge; hatred and revenge we carry against others will build walls of separation around us. Very soon our younger generation will be at each others’ throats; with new separation ideas among themselves, believing that, what each one of them think is best for the nation. Thus we would be creating a Frankenstein’s Monster which when released would be hard to control. iii) It is said: “Hate begets hate; violence begets violence; toughness begets a greater toughness.” Violence multiplies violence, is a thought described in the Gospel of Matthew (Verse 26:25). This passage shows a disciple drawing a sword to defend against the arrest of Jesus. “Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus said to him, “for all who draw the sword will die by the sword.”
Yes the chain reaction of wars producing more wars, must be broken. Returning violence for violence multiplies violence; we have to stop it, or we shall be plunged into the dark deep hole of total destruction. Darkness cannot drive darkness away; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do it. If there is no hatred, love blooms of its own accord — spontaneously, naturally. Nothing else is to be done for it to blossom. It is like removing a stone blocking a small stream; once removed, the stream flows on, of its own accord. In the same way, the stone of hatred weighs on us. In order to drive away hate we must meet the forces of hate with the power of love.
