Ponda resident commits suicide
PONDA: A 28-year-old resident of Agapur-Ponda reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his residence on Tuesday morning.

According to Ponda Police, Narendra Satarkar was depressed for the last couple of days and it could be the reason he took the drastic step. Satarkar is survived by his wife and a child. Police is investigating.
Rajasthan native held for theft
CALANGUTE: Calangute Police arrested a native of Rajasthan on charges of stealing cash of Rs 17,000 from a hotel room at Prabhuwada-Calangute.
According to Calangute Police, Rahul Bansilal of Rajasthan complained that the accused, Gaurav Sharma, stole cash of Rs 17,000 from his hotel room at Prabhuwada- and fled in his car (R-27-CC3036).
Calangute Police arrested the accused and Head Constable D Sawant is investigating the case.
Mobile phones, wrist watches stolen
CURCHOREM: Mobile phones and wrist watches worth about Rs 31,000 were stolen from a shop at Quepem.
According to Quepem Police, Om Prakash Malarkar of Deulmol complained that between 9.10 pm on June 2 and 10.45 am on June 3, some persons entered Om Creations and Services at Quepem Municipality building, Quepem, by breaking two wooden roof planks and decamped with eight mobile phones and eight wrist watches, all worth about Rs 31,078. ASI C L Rane is investigating the case.
Scholarships by SIT – New Zealand
PANJIM: The Southern Institute of Technology (SIT) is one of 20 government polytechnics and institutes of technology offering tertiary education programmes throughout New Zealand with 13,000 full and part time students. Konkan Railway monsoon time-table
PANJIM: As per the practice in vogue, this year too the monsoon time table is being implemented on the Konkan Railway Route w.e.f. June 10 to Oct 31 to provide safe passage to trains during the monsoons.
Monsoon timings will come into effect from June 15 (i.e. train leaving from originating stations on June 15). There may be slight variation in timings due to introduction of All India Time Table w.e.f. July 1. Passengers may check timings before undertaking a journey.

Supplemetary HSSCE exam
PANJIM: The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has announced the commencement of the supplementary exam of June 2013, of Higher Secondary School Certificate Examination (HSSCE).
The examination will be held at two centres – St Xavier’s Higher Secondary School Mapusa and Government Multipurpose Higher Secondary Schoo, Borda, Margao. Dr Edward De Lima awarded
PANJIM: Dr Edward Joachim De Lima was awarded the ‘Kala Gaurav Puraskar’ for cultural excellence in the field of literature, for the year 2012-2013 by the Directorate of Art & Culture, Government of Goa, recently. Dr De Lima has written books for learning Konkani both in the Roman and Devanagiri scripts which are very popular. He has also published books on Goan history, namely, Luis de Menezes Braganca – A Goan Thinker and Visionary and Armando Menezes and his writings besides other books.
Rosary girls perform well
PANJIM: At the SSC Examination conducted recently by the Goa Board, the students of Our Lady of the Rosary High School, Dona Paula fared extremely well with a passing percentage of 99%. Of the 112 students, 111 were declared successful. Pranjali Manjarekar topped by securing 96%. She also scored 100 marks each in science, mathematics and social science. Savia Colaço and Vineeta De Souza (93.83%) shared the second place, also scoring 100 marks each in mathematics. Shruti Gaonkar stood fourth (93%) and scored 100 marks each in science and social science. Other students who secured above 90% were Aavani Prabhu, Manjiri Gude, Mavis Rodrigues, Fabiola Pires, Dana Cardoso, Nicole Mascarenhas, Divya Murgaonkar, Lisa-Marie Colaço and Sanjana Dias.
