In a first for the state the Department of Art and Culture has reportedly enforced a moral dress code and banned it’s staffers from wearing sleeveless clothes, jeans etc to work.
While enforcing a moral dress code is a welcome step, one fails to understand what is so indecent about wearing multi-pocket pants and corduroy T-shirts and interestingly no mention is reportedly made of short dresses and skirts. Be that as it may, while many may argue that one is free to dress as one wishes, several private firms and establishments as well as semi-government establishments of the central government have a particular uniform for their staffers.
While enforcing a moral dress code, the government could go one step forward and introduce different uniforms for the staff of the various departments. From these uniforms the general public will be able to recognize a government staff as also to which government department the particular staff belongs to. If the Goa police staff working in the offices of the police stations are expected to wear uniform, why not extend this requirement to the staff of other government departments as well?
