Burglaries have become an everlasting menace that tarnishes the social and financial essence of the society. After successfully targeting the outskirts of the commercial towns last month, thieves have moved to cities.
Two miscreants looted two apartments in Pedde-Khareband locality last week. Another theft of Rs 47060 occurred in the wee hours at Taleigao-Panjim. Robbery just 100 meters away from Colva police station. All these act like icing on the cake. Even robberies in temples have become rampant lately. Looks like Goa has become a hot spot for easy burglaries. I guess the authorities have become lenient in taking the criminals to task. If the public and law-enforcing agencies work with zeal, devoid of fear and fevour, most of the burglaries could be evaded.
Use of alarms in houses can deter criminals from further robberies. The occupants need to be more vigilant while locking their doors and windows. As individuals, we need to keep an eye out for suspicious activity in the neighbourhood. A close rapport with our neighbours could help us be informed about our houses in our absence. A little added effort on our part, can surely protect our houses.
The government on its part needs take concrete action in its endeavour to nab the suspects and also restore the lost belongings to the victims.
