Land grabbing has been going on unabated in Goa since time immemorial. Land has been grabbed mostly by outsiders in places like Monti Dongor and elsewhere which also includes foreigners in places like Morjim which is also known as ‘’Mini Russia” or “Mini Moscow”.
However it is relatively a new practice for our own Govt. to grab land or assist outsiders to grab Goan land. If we see the case of Tiracol where locals have been hoodwinked by Leading Hotels to part with their land and ably supported by the MLA from Pernem who also happens to be the CM of Goa.
The latest and most incredulous land grab is the 6 lakh sq. mtrs given to the defence ministry. Goa has been begging with the Defence Ministry to free up much required land for expansion of the Dabolim Airport and also in places like Panjim where there is acute shortage of land even for parking, now we have been gifting lakhs of acres of land to the Defence only because the ex-CM of Goa and defence minister of India happens to be a Goan.
When there is so much unemployment and land is required for setting up industries, Goa has been sold for thirty pieces of silver. 2017 is fast approaching and all Goans who truly love their land must decide if they will side with Judas Iscariot.
