God save Majorda Village

Recently no-confidence motions have been in the news in some of the villages Panchayats in the State, which includes my village of Majorda. Issuing no-confidence motions in village Panchayats has been the flavor of the day in recent years. There is either an ‘understanding’ that the position of Sarpanch will be rotated among the Panchas, or if the Sarpanch does not toe the Panchayat line, a no-confidence motion against the Sarpanch is presented to the BDO. After that, whatever permits and licenses for illegal structures or activities were held up are released and everyone is happy. With their illegal means of income, many panchayat members are seen suddenly acquiring a luxurious lifestyle, moving from rags to riches in a short span of time after gaining power.
Villagers elect ward representatives to take care of issues in the village, but it looks like these members are more interested in gaining power at the top rather than working for the people and development of the village. Corrupt villagers having personal issues with particular Panchas should also away from creating rift in Panchayat affairs.
