Penalise irresponsible cattle owners
I praise the Gujarat High Court Judge for taking stern action and sentencing the accused (owner of the cows) for six months imprisonment, for letting loose, the cattle on the roads and thus endangering the lives of the people.

Is this law different in our State of Goa? It’s really sad that almost in every village street and at times on the highways, cattle are seeing roaming and some engaging in fight (Dhiryo) in the middle of the road.
Travel at night is a nightmare as the colour of the cattle goes unnoticed causing loss of humans and cattle as well. The authorities responsible for impounding cattle are least interested in penalising the irresponsible cattle owners. Will our authorities act, before more precious lives are lost?

Issuance of driving licence
Goa’s Director-General of Police mentioned that the department would recommend to the government to make licence-issuing system “very very stringent” and that a licence should only be issued after the person who takes the test is sure he is capable of riding or driving. This is normally a done thing since even presently the licence is presumably not issued so easily.
The problem crops up after obtaining the licence when most people behave like kings and queens on the roads. They have no traffic sense and drive like one possessed by spirits and tend to act like bullies. All rules and regulations that they learn by rote and regurgitate during the driving tests are tossed to the winds. Overtaking, over-speeding, overloading, not wearing helmets and seat belts, using high beam lights to razzle-dazzle the oncoming motorists, drunken driving, using mobiles, and all such senseless things are a common sight. These are the dangerous people who cause accidents.
Perhaps during the driving tests there should be classes on patience, short film on the reasons for accidents and their legal and medical consequences, both to the drivers and to others. The government on its part needs to provide clean and non-bumpy roads, proper working traffic signals, zebra crossings, signages, cattle-free roads etc. and additional traffic cops who will brook no nonsense from traffic violators.

Vajpayee’s works echo his nationalism
Leaders come and go at different stages in Indian politics, but only a few remain incised in our memory forever. Late Atal Bihari Vajpayee, whose 98th birth anniversary was observed on December 25, 2022, is one such. Vajpayee easily joins the ranks of former Prime Ministers like Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, P V Narasimha Rao and Dr Manmohan Singh in liberalising the Indian economy and shaping and advancing India’s progress in international politics. Beyond his fascinating mastery over prose, Vajpayee made sizable and life-changing economic contributions to the people during his tenure as PM. The origin of a number of initiatives that define our economic lives today is linked to the Vajpayee era. Although, not all of them materialised during his tenure, it would be apt to say that Vajpayee lived the future of the Indian economy. Thanks to the telecom revolution, economic and physical lives are more connected today than ever before, and the credit for which goes to Vajpayee government’s policy innovations that triggered India’s telecom revolution. India’s second highest civilian honour, the Padma Vibhushan, was conferred upon Vajpayee in recognition of his dedication and selfless service to his first and only love – India. The former Prime Minister’s works continue to echo his total commitment to nationalism.

Serving Parliament & Assembly is a respect
Politics is an election under Public Representation Act, there is no retirement age but can be re-elected. The MPs and the MLAs should not get pension as politics is not a job or they are employed by government or private sector but a free service, if implemented it should be like New Pension Scheme implemented for new government servants. Another big cheating done to the public taxpayers’ money is that if a person is elected a councillor then becomes a MLA and then MP he is entitled for three pensions, it is just a betrayal towards the citizens of the country. A Central Pay Commission must be appointed on the lines of pay commission appointed to government servants. At present they increase salaries and allowances by voting themselves and at that time all parties are united on the payment issue. In other European countries the President of the country doesn’t have so much wealth accumulated by Indian politicians. In India there are no raids of ED and CBI against ruling parties but there are many against opposition parties.
Regarding health, MPs and MLAs should be allowed to be treated in State-run government hospitals similar to Indian public health, treatment in foreign countries should be at their own expense and not taxpayers’ money. All concessions and subsidies including food, electricity, water and free air travel should be withdrawn or terminated.
Criminals should be banned from the Parliament and debarred from contesting elections. Financial losses due to politicians should be collected from their families and properties. Retirement age should be made compulsory, only then we will have clean politicians.

Concentrate on Aviation Sector
The international Civil Aviation Day was celebrated on December 7, 2022. Well, it was quite interesting to note that most English newspapers in Asia were carrying a lot of special reports on the occasion that day. Way to go indeed! In fact, a beautiful thought of air travel occurred to me after observing all those interesting reports out there.
First up, the joy of travelling is something mysterious and interesting, and even beyond. Of course, air travel has always been a step ahead because we are literally flying amid beautiful clouds, the Sun and Moon alike in the sky. More to the point, it is to be noted that travels are not just about moving or taking the people/passengers between various places. Rather, even transportation of goods/cargo actually involves a lot of travel instead.
This means that travels in the form of consignment and transportation have been majorly contributing to rigorous economic activities across the board. Way forward! What next then? On the other hand, there have been some unfortunate blots on the aviation sector in the form of fatal air accidents worldwide. This aside, there have been a lot more advancements in the modern aviation industry now – from high-end aeroplanes to well-equipped airports to efficient travel time.
The other day I had an opportunity to travel by bus in my native district of Tuticorin after a hectic schedule. And the joy and happiness I had out of it cannot be explained in words – just soothing my tired physical and mental faculties like anything.
Above all else, transportation facilities in terms of trucks and lorries have been playing a huge part in the movement of numerous agricultural products like paddy, banana, betel and much more in my native areas like Korkai, Tiruchendur, Tuticorin, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Marthandam and Nagercoil in Tamil Nadu.
Likewise, the aviation sector has been front and centre in mass transportation of people and goods/cargo alike, thereby triggering rigorous economic activities across the world. Countries, authorities and airliners should make good use of innovation and technological advances to ensure passenger comfort and overall safety in the aviation sector globally.
