Congress bashing
This is with reference to the article titled ‘Congress has outlived its shelf life ‘Herald dated March 25, that pointed out that in the last elections Congress was the single largest party but yet the excuse given then was that for four days the Congress couldn’t choose a leader. But yet this time, despite the election results being out half a month ago there was no government sworn in till March 28.

The writer states that the Church supported Congress and didn’t speak out against corruption. In fact the church has never openly supported any candidate and has always spoken out against corruption and injustices happening even across the country taking a stand on Double Tracking, Mopa or even recently at Old Goa where the church showed solidarity with protestors. Videos showed priests speaking against corruption in all its forms as it is their duty to guide their flock. Congress also fielded many good leaders. In the early eighties the traditional “United Goan Party” votes shifted to the Congress and for the first time MGP was unseated. The writer wrongly calls these as ‘secular votes’ when these were basically anti-merger votes now supported by people of different faiths.
Most Congress voters especially North Goa are these traditional UG voters and have sentiments towards the party so there is no use wasting time doing post mortem or blaming the Gandhi Family or indulging in Congress bashing. People who are against corruption and further destruction of the little that’s left of Goa should come together now set aside their personal differencies and not wait for the next election. The people of Goa this time voted for a change but unfortunately there were too many parties and the anti-BJP votes got split. Clear example is Navelim a traditional Congress bastion where the votes split. To strengthen the opposition, now is the time to give positive suggestions and encourage our elected representatives whichever party they may belong to, so that Goa may have a strong opposition in the Assembly because Double Engine is coming soon and is going to roar its way through our hinterland.

Saffron shines, broom sweeps
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and AAM party supremo Arvind Kejriwal emerged as the real victors swept all four States including Uttar Pradesh, and the AAP won by a landslide in Punjab. Narendra Modi draws his legitimacy from electoral mandates. The devastating Covid-9 pandemic, lock down induced migration, job losses and inflation all forgotten as he worked his magic on the voters in the latest round of State elections.
The only party that matched the BJP level of engagement was the AAP, at least in Punjab. It was also focused on discipline, booth management and effective massaging. The rise of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been on par with those leaders like Mamata Banerjee, Nationalist Congress Party President Sharad Pawar and Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao, who been exploring nitty among the non-BJP parties. The AAP was kept away from these plans as it only rules Delhi, and Kejriwal was seen as a political light weight. Given this win, will Kejriwal now leave the management of Delhi to his deputy Manish Sisodia and devote his time to party expansion? He is likely to, as AAp is the third party, apart from Cong, to have governments in at least two States.

Attacks on reporters, not acceptable
The recent attack on a lady reporter of Herald by some disgruntled goons hired by the tourist businessmen along the Anjuna coastal belt which stretches to Siolim is not acceptable. Such attacks on reporters or complainants have become a regular feature in Goa. Siolim locals too have made similar complaints. Governments in power do double speak, they make laws and allow them to be misused. What type of law abiding citizens are we grooming the future generation?
The students are having difficulty in studying their lessons, music is played beyond the permissible sound decibels and to top it up beyond 11pm. Many of these tourist joints obtain a licence for running the bar and restaurants. Has the Govt made provision to issue licences for open air dance music floors? If these tourist joints want to have loud music they should construct soundproof venues like the famous SORO night out at Assagao. The police dept. entrusted with the powers to book the culprits under the Environment Act of 1986 let these violators continue playing loud music. The Hon’ble high court of Goa should intervene and make the GPSCB and the Dy Collector responsible and ensure that the act is followed in merit.
Let local citizens be given their right to have a peaceful sleep. Those people who come to enjoy during the nights leaving their State or country to come to Goa should be a little sensible and law abiding citizens of this country “one men’s enjoyment should not be other men’s destruction of the environment and health.”

Stop the massacre of Ukraine
Nobody could have dreamt and believed that a modern day dictator would cause such a massacre of innocent women and children without any provocation and reason.
The loss of life, displacement of millions of Ukrainians and destruction of Ukraine will take more than a decade to put back in place what existed before February 24.
Although India is a friend of Russia, so is China and Pakistan. We must have compassion and sympathise with the homeless people of Ukraine rather than supporting Russia in a senseless war which has no benefits either for Russia or anyone else as we can see from the rising prices of oil which our finance minister has blamed on the war.
So what good is it for the common man who has to pay through his nose for the rising price of fuel and at the same time watch in horror a Government who is siding with the oppressors.
May better sense prevail to stop a larger war which may end in the destruction of Europe and the world.

Promises are only made
Promises are meant to be broken, so that when any political parties come in power they can be broken. Promises were that three gas cylinders will be given but nothing is changed.
Gas prices are increasing. Diesel and petrol is rising every day. Senior citizens are not receiving their pension under Deen Dayal scheme. Middle class families are struggling. Is this the actual definition of Aachhe Din?

Propaganda or distraction?
Which category of film does Kashmir Files come under? Is it entertainment or a documentary or propaganda? If it is entertainment don’t expect the truth, if it is documentary it should be based on facts; if it is for propaganda expect lies! So many States have made it tax free. Instead of tax free Kashmir Files can we get Vat free petrol? Are we following the Nazi model? ‘Triumph of the Will’ was commissioned by Hitler himself as a “record” of the sixth Nazi party congress held at Nuremberg, September 4-10, 1934. It chronicles the 1934 Nazi Party Congress in Nuremberg, which was attended by more than 700,000 Nazi supporters.
