The Electricity Department seems to have a special relation with the residents of the La Campala Colony of Miramar. During the cloudy monsoon days, the department ensures that the residents do not have any problem in negotiating their way through the colony by keeping the street lights on till around 9 O’clock in the morning.
As this piece is being typed, the street lights are on and it is now 8.30 in the morning. The department was informed about it on 29 June by dialing the phone number 2225835. It was answered by a gentleman on the other side. This competition between streetlight and sunlight has been going on for more than a week.
There is a movement to save energy. It is said that saving energy is more economical than producing energy. At home we are conscious of the wastage and put off the lights when they are not required because we have to foot the bill. Electricity department is the king of his domain and the public will foot the bill. Somebody in the government must be drawing salary for supervising this specific work of putting on and off streetlights.
