The DSE decision to garner support of the Catholic MLAs is correct. When the OBC’s approach their MLA’s to get reservation there was no such hue and cry! Why now? Why should only the DSE have to ‘appear’ non-communal? Continued follow up by the DSE with the people concerned brought no results and the Catholic MLAs inaction prompted the action taken.
The existing HSS’s could not accommodate the students passing the recent SSCE — pure negligence on the part of the Education Dept. and the Education Minister showing utter lack of planning — this too when there were already applications pending for new HSS’s.
The Education Dept. ‘solved’ this by increasing the seats in existing HSSs by 30 seats each — this means no new divisions but flouting their standard on the maximum number of students allowed per division — thus compromising both the students and quality.
Further, if as per the Education Dept. new HSSs were not required, then the same would automatically have been closed down for want of students. The risk is entirely with the DSE. So why the refusal? Are they afraid of certain Pvt. Institutions losing out on student admissions? And helping them are those crying foul on the DSE action!
