World Yoga Day is being observed on 21 June and if some news reports are to be believed, children and teachers are being made to attend school on Sunday and also have to send reports of their celebrations to the Ministry of Education.
Forcing children to attend school on Sundays is not a healthy practice as the very idea of a weekly off for the youngsters is defeated. Gone are the carefree days when students would return home from school and have their lunch and would be off to play. In today’s world, the work load of the young students has increased enormously and there is hardly any time for rest and recreation.
Yoga cannot be taught to the young children or adults in one day and by forcing the youngsters to come to school on Sunday they may starting hating yoga. It would have been better if it was introduced during the normal teaching curriculum during the PT or sports periods.
