Sack Srivastava
It was shocking to read that Chief Secretary Sanjay Srivastava (of course with the blessings of his political godfathers) was the principal architect of the harassment of an honest Ex-DGP Dr. Arya. (Herald December 30, 2011)
Recently, the government and Mr. Srivastava were involved in a controversy with organizers of Sunburn 2011, regarding the granting of permission to hold the festival. Srivastava had promised to start an inquiry into online ticket sales prior to granting to hold the event. But, the organizers were given a go-ahead just a few days before the event. It looks seems that Srivastava has lost his way of working in the State. It is time he should be shown the door for fooling Goans and taking them for a ride.

Safe investments
This refers to “Nuvem house burgled” (Herald December 30, 2011). Goans must stop investing in gold ornaments. With prices soaring, there are bound to be robberies for the yellow metal. There are lots of other investment opportunities for investment or even savings in banks. Nobody is sure about getting help from the police after a number of robberies have been reported. Neither are novenas or rosaries going to help. People in the West aren’t bothered about buying gold ornaments. We should not be afraid in keeping money in Government or nationalised banks. One can save any amount of money in Banks. And, with easy ATM withdrawals there is no reason why one needs to parade their gold ornaments everywhere. There is a gold scam going on, because of the frequent occurrences of robberies at jewellery shops. There are also locker facility in banks. Be wise, not foolish. Don let anyone rob you of your hard earned money.

Bogus names
The complaint of the BJP regarding enrollment of bogus names in the election roll (Herald December 30, 2011) is absolutely justified. The State Election Commissioner should consider this complaint very seriously and delete the names of all the migrants from the election roll before the election. The Chief Minister has created his vote bank to help him gain an easy victory with the help of migrants votes, since he does not depend upon the Goans votes. We Goans cannot enrol ourselves in other states. Why then should migrants from other states get voting rights in Goa? The State Election Commissioner seems to be hand in glove with the ruling party i.e. Congress, and thus overlooks all the complaints against it.

Lokpal or ‘jokepal’
It seems that the cry of a common man goes to parliament in vain cause our nation is given to the sons of Cain.’ How else can we sum up the drama enacted by all those schmucks? All that play acting will give an inferiority complex to best of the Oscar winners. Every inister and MP who has amassed ‘haram ka paisa’ does not want the Lokpal Bill to go through, because then it will be the end of their greed for more money. It is saddening that very few people turned up at the MMRD grounds in Mumbai than at the Ramlila Maidan which gave the impetus to these rogues to orchestrate such a drama.The question is , is who wants to lose his ill-gotten wealth even if it is ten rupees? When venality is prevalent in India how can a perfect Lokpal Bill go through.

Parking woes
Lately Margao was in news for the demand of parking spots by MMC councillors. But in Goa corruption has prevailed over development. Our politicians visit foreign lands at the cost of the taxpayers’ money, but are unable to come up with good ideas for development of the State such as improved parking facilities. In Margao city in spite of the existence of open places like pick up stand and old fish market, the Margao Municipal Council has failed to develop these places into multi-storeyed parking areas for public use. Instead, a Delhi based hotelier is being allowed access to a road through old fish market. This act ill cause inconvenience for the public. Money power has once again polished the hands of corrupt politicians to inconvenience the public.

You asked us to comment on your reports. What can I say, but your esteemed daily is just fabulous. The investigative journalism is an answer to our prayers. Your reporters are indeed fearless and so also, your editorial board. Keep it up. Everyone knows that Tourism is Goa’s biggest bread earner. Please bring back DGP Arya. We do not want drugs, pimps or prostitutes in Goa, particularly the coastal belt. Living almost next door to your office makes me a proud man. When I wake up and smell the coffee, all it takes is the Herald to make a good start to the day. Countless thanks Herald. Goa needs more newspapers like yours.

Code of conduct
With elections scheduled on March 3, and with election code of conduct in force, the politicians are now ready with their absurd excuses to put their development projects on the back burner. The latest is regarding solving of the parking problems of Margao. This problem has been going on for times immemorial. But they are waking up now only when the councillors are feeling the pinch of their vehicles not getting parking space – this was only after some conscientious citizens shunted their vehicles out of the municipal garden.
