Rider killed in Baina mishap
VASCO: A two-wheeler rider died in a road accident near the Baina fish market.

According to Vasco Police, the accident occurred when Sachin Shet Tanavade, who was speeding on his two-wheeler, lost control of the vehicle and the two-wheeler jumped over a divider. Tanavade fell off the vehicle and sustained multiple injuries.
Police said Tanavade was rushed to GMC Hospital in Bambolim, where he succumbed to injuries while undergoing medical treatment on Tuesday morning. PSI Nikhil Palekar is investigating the case.
Karnataka native held for theft
PORVORIM: A native of Gadag-Karnataka was caught red-handed while attempting to steal a water pump worth Rs 15,000 from the pump house at Mapusa fire station on Monday. According to Mapusa Police, Subha Shirodkar, sub officer of Mapusa Fire Station, complained that the accused was caught red-handed while attempting to steal the water pump by dismantling the nuts/bolts of the water pump base. Head Constable Ajay Gaonkar is investigating the case.
Skeletal remains found at Assagao
CALANGUTE: The skeletal remains of an unidentified man were found at Assagao Hill.
Anjuna Police suspect that the deceased aged between 19 to 25 years must have been murdered and the accused disposed off the remains along the Assagao-Siolim roadside at Assagao Hill sometime before March 30. PI V P Karpe is investigating the case.
Minor boy assaulted at Calangute
CALANGUTE: A minor boy was injured after he was assaulted by three persons at Porbawado-Calangute on Monday. According to Calangute Police, the boy’s mother complained that the three accused persons assaulted her son with slaps for damaging their motorcycle and causing him injury. PSI Nitin Halankar is investigating the case.
Quepem local accused of molestation
CURCHOREM: A resident of Pirla-Quepem has been accused of outraging the modesty of a woman and assaulting her at Kevona-Quepem. According to Quepem Police, the victim’s husband complained that on Sunday, the accused assaulted his wife and outraged her modesty.
The complainant further stated that the accused assaulted him with knife, causing injury and also threatened to kill him. ASI C L Rane is investigating the case.
Merces sarpanch resigns
MERCES: Merces Sarpanch Yateen Palekar on Tuesday tendered his resignation to pave way for another panch from the ruling panel to occupy the top post.
The move is part of the agreement reached among the ruling panchas to rotate the sarpanch’s post among themselves for an equal term. Palekar occupied the post for over 10 months.
Speaking to Herald, Palekar informed that he has resigned to honour the agreement. Though the panel is yet to decide on the candidate for next sarpanch, it is reliably learnt that Panch Walter D’Souza has emerged as the front-runner.
Don Bosco AGM
PANJIM: Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda, will hold their General Body Meeting and General Elections for the 2013-14 term on April 7 at 11 am in Don Bosco Hall, Fatorda.

Prize distribution held
PANJIM: Acdil English primary school, Porvorim, had its annual prize distribution, at Porvorim. Various prizes were given to students in art, English, maths, Konkani etc.
Outstanding students from std I to std IV, Krish Mangela, Malvika Deshpande, Devki Lawande and Siddharth Naik , were conferred proficiency awards and the Monginis Puraskar was awarded to Sakshi Pandit of standard IV.
Advocate M S Usgaokar, Chairman of the Acdil Trust was the chief guest, the principal Shashi Kumar addressed the gathering and senior teacher Dorothy Pereira compered.
Children’s summer camp
PANJIM: Samrat sports club Margao will hold its 17th annual summer camp for children at Junta Quarters Cultural club, Pajifond, Margao, from 9 am to 12 noon from April 8 to 21.
The camp is open for the age group of 5 to 14 years. A free dental check up and cardiac camp will also be held.
Dr Venketesh Hedge, Avduth Sahakari, Vishwanath Swar, Dr Jorson Fernandes, Sangeeta Hegde, Vitney D’Souza, Praveen Concar and Salik Shaikh will guide the children in the camp.

Consumer Shoppee exhibition opens
PANJIM: ‘Consumers Shoppee’ exhibition of consumer and household products held at Chicalim Sports Complex, Chicalim, Vasco was inaugurated today by Fiola Rego, Chairperson, Mormugao Municipal Council. Chief guest Tara Kerkar, councillor, along with various company representatives were present for the inaugural function.
This exhibition is from April 2 to 7 from 11 am to 9 pm.

Community awareness program
PANJIM: Zuari Agro Chemicals Ltd (ZACL) and Zuari Indian Oiltanking Ltd in association with Inspectorate of Factories & Boilers, Govt of Goa organized a ‘Community Awareness Program’ for Teachers of Kendriya Vidyalaya-I recently.
Deepali Naik, Additional Collector and CEO, South Goa District Disaster Management Authority was the chief guest while Vivek Marathe, Inspector of Factories, Govt of Goa was the guest of honour.
Chief guest, Deepali Naik stressed the importance of the role of teachers in development of the community. She said students will be well prepared to take precautionary measures if they are informed at the right time. She promised full support for such programs. Vivek Marathe, spoke on the salient features of off-site emergency plan and the role to be played by different agencies in mitigating emergencies.
Stephen Vaz, General Manager-Manufacturing welcomed the gathering and praised the school teachers for playing a major role in nurturing children into intellectual and well cultured human beings.
S K Naik briefed about the ‘do’s and ‘don’ts’ in case of leakage or spillage of ammonia and phosphoric acid and action to be taken by the community. Dr A G Vaidya explained first aid techniques in case of chemical emergencies. Valencio D’Souza, Zuari Indian Oiltanking Ltd briefed about the ‘Do’s and Don’ts’ while handling petroleum products.
