I read with tears your front page edit. Your call to Goans to wake up is in the right direction. You deserve all praise because you will never spare the slightest effort to wake up Goans from their deep slumber.
But, like before, I presume, all appeals will fall on deaf years. People feel so frustrated that they think it fit to migrate to a country that is not theirs, but accepts them wholeheartedly and promotes their right to live and express themselves as they please.
The bitter truth is that the minorities, cannot expect anything from the RSS backed BJP Government. Every day they instill more fear in us.
The sad thing is that we alone dug our own grave. In 2012 elections the Archbishop and his minions went all out to bury the Congress. As if they did not know that they were giving “thumbs up” to the BJP.
If one analyzes the happenings, in the last few years, it is not difficult to realize that it was the Archbishop with his advisors and “padris” in general that let us down. They wittingly played into the hands of the BJP.
Long back, an RSS pracharak had told me:- . We don’t care for people like you and your rantings. Once we enfeeble the Catholic Church, we are going to have a free run in the State. Regrettably, the Archbishop willingly fell into the RSS trap despite plangent appeals from many sane voices.
Then we had the altar boy “traitors” who chose to accept a few crumbs of bread, to realize now that their “careers” have come to an end. Further, the Parrikar’s coterie led by a Panaji doctor and an advocate, that according to most observers, did the greatest harm by serving as “yes man”.
Fr. Victor Ferrao (the only one who walks the talk) has written scathing enlightened articles taking the radical Hindu fringe to task as well as a complicit Central and State Government. But, sadly, it is difficult to convert the “devil” who lurks menacingly in the fringes. It is only by realizing our mistakes, rising up to the occasion (as you plead) and becoming once again politically strong (if at all possible) that we will be able to save what is left of our communal diversity.
I pray and hope that all Goans will rise as one to save our plurality and defeat the communal forces.
