The BJP-led Government of Goa, being placed in an embarrassing position before the entire country as one of its BJP Haryana Mahila Leader Sonali Phogat’s demise due to the alleged consumption of overdose of drugs, has compelled the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant to transfer the murder case to CBI, solely due to external threats from the Haryana Khap Panchayat.
Sadly the Goa Police and political authorities were in denial mode of a large scale of drug trafficking throughout our State making their easy availability even to the remotest corners of hinterland of Goa besides the entire North to South Coastal belt, due to huge kickbacks received from the lucrative trade.

The Government was informing the public of the sporadic raids on small fish of young addicts turned small vendors to sustain their vices of cannabis mainly ganja and charas, seized from them, whilst ignoring the massive sale by drug lords in Goa dealing in large quantities of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances MDMA, cocaine, ecstasy, brown sugar (cocaine cheaper derivative). The drug sharks were operating freely with support of police and politicians in power.
Few years ago an unfortunate incident of two friends who succumbed due to consumption of narcotics as alleged by the police, at a birthday party in Curtorim had exposed the dirty underbelly of drug trafficking during the BJP Rule.
Such a proportion of drug trafficking cannot take place in Goa unless there is a clandestine nexus to promote the trade of psychotropic substances between police and the political godfathers of the illicit trade. Many such deaths of our Goans as well as tourist youth have occurred but the authorities turned a blind eye because the media did not highlight them much till this unfortunate death of a BJP functionary which gained national media attention so as for the Chief Minister to take the matter seriously.
From such ill-fated incident one can conclude that consumption of drugs transcends religion and has travelled from coastal north to interiors of South Goa and to the visiting male and female tourists.
The national and international media has repeatedly filed reports that terrorist activities are funded through drug trafficking.
Thus it is evident that availability of drugs to youngsters is an attempt by anti-national elements to make the society into drug dependent and then capitalise on their addiction to have constant economic resources to fund the high costs of terrorist activities.
Hence a Right Wing government that claims to promote nationalist ideals in one breath cannot allow growth of anti-national activities of drug trafficking in another breath.
Thus it is appreciated that the print media in Goa like the Herald and their audio visual media have awakened the authorities to curb the menace of drugs affecting the youth and control the anti-national activities permitted either by acts of omission or commission of the so called patriotic forces. Hopefully the announcement of the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant to make Goa totally pot free does not water down like his earlier assurances to make Goa a pothole free State.
